ROHNERT PARK, CA – Construction of the Southwest and Commerce Boulevard roundabout project in Rohnert Park is scheduled to begin Tuesday, city officials said on Monday.
The project, which was previously delayed by weather conditions, will increase safety, improve traffic flow, reduce travel times and reduce carbon emissions.
The work consists of installing a roundabout, new sidewalks with ADA ramps, bio-retention ponds and new landscaping.
The work will take place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday until July.
“Please note that this schedule is subject to change due to circumstances beyond the control of the city of Rohnert Park, including the weather”, according to the project web page.
The roundabout is a major roadway and sewer improvement project, so there will be an inevitable impact on the neighborhood, including:
- Closure of the Sud-Ouest and Commerce Boulevard intersection (no access north or south from Cotati to the southwest / Commerce Boulevard Nord).
- Noise, dust and vibrations from heavy trucks, equipment and construction activities.
Access to all shops and side streets will be maintained, but there could be temporary delays in repositioning construction equipment, the city said.
As the intersection will be closed, motorists are encouraged to take alternative routes such as those shown by black arrows on the map below:
The latest information on construction schedules, road closures, detours and city contacts are posted on the traffic page on the city’s website.
