Chamber announces one-of-a-kind endorsement thanks to Latimer’s unwavering support for Westchester small businesses
Local chambers of commerce do not usually get involved in politics, except to organize a debate. But that political period in Westchester’s history changed with COVID. During his first term as County Manager, George Latimer showed unwavering support for Westchester’s small businesses and the chambers of commerce that serve them. This support was amplified during the COVID-19 pandemic when it was most needed. That’s why, for the first time, the Sleepy Hollow Tarrytown Chamber of Commerce is backing George Latimer for his re-election as County Director.
Latimer said: âWhat my administration has done over the past four years is to build new lines of communication that did not exist before. From local governments, community organizations, businesses small and large, to chambers of commerce like the Sleepy Hollow Tarrytown Chamber, everyone has their place at the table and it is producing real results. Not just rhetoric. Small businesses in Westchester have been hit hard during COVID-19 and I’m proud of our efforts to be there for them. “
Sleepy Hollow Tarrytown Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Stephanie Rodnick said: âCounty executive George Latimer was there for us during some of the most difficult times we have faced as a chamber, community and county over the past four years. His unwavering leadership during COVID-19, his commitment to accompany us and his constant presence made it clear that we must break our standards and endorse them. George is a true friend and a great leader for Westchester County. “
During his tenure as County Director, Latimer has been a familiar face to local organizations – attending many meetings, listening to concerns, and always following up on common issues. The support does not stop there. The county government provided direct assistance to small businesses and chambers of commerce during the height of the pandemic – most notably the Sleepy Hollow Tarrytown chamber of which many nonprofits are members. Latimer understands that Westchester’s greatest assets are the people who make it up and work hard every day, especially during some of the county’s darkest times.
Sleepy Hollow Tarrytown Chamber of Commerce President Laura Rey added: âFrom the commitment to restoring the historic Tarrytown Lighthouse, a major tourist attraction for our community and a boon for our House members to opening the first line of communication with the County Executive Office, to providing the necessary PPE to our small businesses – George has always been there for us.
Latimer concludes: âI am honored to receive this approval. I know what this House is doing for its community. Their practical commitment to developing not only themselves, but the county as a whole is evident through their constant involvement in our multi-chamber events. I ask the residents of Westchester County to trust me again and I am proud to have the support of the Sleepy Hollow Tarrytown Chamber.
This is Latimer’s unofficial kickoff for his campaign. His opponent is Republican Christine Sculti. Election day is November 2, with early voting starting October 23. Learn more about latimerforwestchester.com.
