Memphis football’s Quindell Johnson has a wild one-handed INT against Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Leave it at Memphis senior defensive back Quindell Johnson to deliver another flagship game for the Tigers on Saturday at the Navy.

Navy attempted a trick with a halfback pass in the second quarter, but Johnson found the ball and made a one-handed interception while falling back in the end zone.

It was a piece that was almost reminiscent of the one-handed catches made famous by NFL wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Quarterback Seth Henigan heard his teammates shout the theme song at ESPN’s “Sportscenter” and when he saw the replay on the video board, all he could say was “Wow”

“He deserves these games. He works hard for us,” Henigan said.

After the game, Johnson said he wanted to play because his mother’s birthday was on Saturday and she couldn’t attend. It was a gift that also made Memphis fans lucky that he would return for his final season.

The game was Johnson’s second straight game with an interception to start the season and the eighth of his career for Memphis. Johnson has three takeaways this season after recovering a fumble against Mississippi State.
